Why Did You Decide To Work From Home?

Home Office
I started my business by accident. I was working in the suburbs, living in the city, and sick of the commute. After a particularly
long four hour commute because of a snow storm, I gave three weeks notice the next day.

My boss asked me to stay until she found someone. I agreed and started my job search (I gave notice before I had a job, I was just fed up).

To make a long story short, she hadn’t found anyone after three weeks and I’d already secured another position. She asked me If I could work weekends to help out until she found someone. I agreed and traveled to my old job every weekend for an additional three weeks.

After the 3rd week of doing this and my replacement nowhere in sight. I informed her that I could no longer continue to spend my weekends working and traveling, and that if she still needed my help, I would have to login and work from home.

She agreed and became my first client. Ya know, she never replaced me and I continue to be her virtual assistant almost two years later.

How about you? Why did you decide to work from home?

I decided to work from home because I was sick of the full time job I had at my local university. My hours away from my newborn were horrendous and I just couldn’t cope with that, so I worked on finding a way out of of my job without quitting cold turkey. I first slid into “student” status and dropped to part time student work, secured a student loan, and was finally able to take classes online and come home.
Then I started my business to supplement family income.
It was a long process, but so well worth it!!

Congratulations on taking the plunge Demetria!

It can be scary at first, especially giving up that steady paycheck, but with determination and hard work it can be done.
